Illinois Waterway Visitor Center and Museum Watch towboats make their way along the Illinois River during a visit to the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center. Inside the center, visitors can learn about the locks and dams that control the flow along the Illinois & Michigan Canal. Other exhibits focus on the construction of these structures. Once used as a means to get the Illinois and Michigan Canal over the river, the Fox River Aqueduct is used today as part of the I&M Canal State Trail. It spans more than 460 ft (140 m) across, making it the longest such structure of the five on the I&M Trail. The aqueduct is located on the west side of Ottawa, extending across the Fox River. Canal Lock #14 Lock #14 was constructed in 1848 on the Illinois-Michigan Canal, which stems from Lake Michigan. The lock once stood where the canal met the Illinois River. It has been restored over the years and is a prime example the river locks used in the 19th century. It is located on Canal Road, near Route 351 on the south side of the town. Savanna-Sabula Bridge The Savanna-Sabula Bridge connects Illinois with Iowa as it crosses the Mississippi River. The bridge was constructed in 1932 and is historically significant because of the steel trusses used to build it. Address: US Rt. 52 Savanna IL USA 61074

Visitors can enjoy a picnic along the Mississippi as they watch a variety of boats sail by the US Lock and Dam #13. This area is on the National Register of Historic Places. From the end of May until the beginning of September guests can go on a guided walking tour of the facilities. The tour leaves at 1pm from the observation deck.
